He explains the Gullah culture belief in herbalism, spiritualism and black magic, known as ‘voodoo’, to which the Gullah refer to as ‘the root’. Stories throughout of the legendary ‘Dr. Buzzard’, who along with Beaufort County Sheriff, J. E. McTeer, later author of ‘The High Sheriff of the Lowcountry’, were the respective ‘root doctors’ in the Lowountry. Bibliography, Index, Diagram, B/W photos. 148 pages.
